A PLAN setting out a framework for growth, development and opportunities in four council areas has picked up a national award. The TAYplan Main Issues Report won an award in the Scottish Government's annual Scottish Awards for Quality in Planning.

Now in their 14th year the awards promote quality developments achieved through effective planning processes and celebrate positive contributions by individuals and organisations that enable high quality development.

Cllr John Beare, current convener of TAYplan said: "The Main Issues Report was the first to be published in taking forward Strategic Development Plans in Scotland.

"As well as being the first, this award also indicates that it was among the best and to achieve a national award is an excellent achievement for TAYplan.

"On behalf of the joint committee I want to pay tribute to the hard work and dedication of officers who made this happen and welcome the recognition of the quality of work that has been produced."

A panel of three judges make their recommendations for awards and commendations to Scottish Ministers.

Set up in 2008, TAYplan, the Strategic Development Planning Authority has created a proposed strategy for the location of major development in Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross and North Fife.

The public and anyone interested will be asked whether they support or would like to make changes to any aspects of the plan between June 6 and August 1.
