TAYplan/ University of Dundee Youth Camp 2015

June 12th, 2015

Children have been using a popular computer game to learn more about how places can change.

School pupils from nine secondary schools across the TAYplan area have taken part in a one day Youth Camp at Dundee University on June 11.

The children used Minecraft to develop their spatial awareness of place and the implications of changing that place. Using Dundee Waterfront has helped raise the awareness of young people of the area’s largest regeneration project.  Whilst this will not alter the Waterfront Masterplan, it allowed children to think about planning in the context of a real life place.

The one-day Youth Camp provided pupils with the opportunity to think about the places they live, study and work by taking part in exciting interactive workshops and digital visualisation projects.  There was also an opportunity to think about planning as a future career.

TAYplan was set up in 2008 to create a strategy for the location of major development in Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross and North Fife council areas.

A consultation process, for TAYplan, is currently underway as planners look to refresh the strategy since it was first approved in 2012.

Further information on the consultation, including how to take part, and the role of TAYplan, can be found on www.tayplan-sdpa.gov.uk/tayplan2015
